Kids are notoriously bad for having short attention spans, and few things can disappoint more than a little one who has lost interest in a once loved toy. Luckily, turning a kids playhouse into a more exciting and engaging clubhouse for kids can open up a whole new dimension of play!
So we all know that are numerous company’s out there selling outdoor playhouses, and many of them are fantastic. The problem is that our kids can all too often get bored of playing alone or with their siblings as their imaginations can run a little dry.
The Outdoor Clubhouse
A great way to rejuvenate your kids lost love of their playhouses is to re-introduce them to your little ones a kids clubhouse! You can make changes or alterations to its physical appearance if you wish (how cool would it be to paint a wooden tree house in a camouflage style so they can play army) – but we’ve found that engaging in role play with your kids during this stage can completely alter how they see their playhouse.
Get involved, get others involved – their friends, siblings, cousins, pets…anything or anyone! This sense of belonging to a special club is often exciting and new. Let them name their club, decorate it, create invites for their friends to come and play – the playhouse can become a ‘Den’, ‘Headquarters’ or whatever they wish!
A ClubHouse for Kids
When thinking about this I was reminded of an episode of Peppa Pig I once saw. For those of you that aren’t aware, Peppa Pig is a British preschool animvated TV series.
The episode features the main character and her friends fighting over who had the best clubhouse – the girls with a treehouse, the boys with a castle playhouse. Simple toys, but very effective.
I’ve only got to think back to my own childhood and I can remember a love of clubhouses well into my early teenage years. Naturally the type of clubhouse you play with changes from early outdoor playhouses when you’re young, to elaborate treehouses and clubhouses in the local woods when you’re older and more adventurous. That perceived change of a simple toy playhouse to an exclusive clubhouse for kids can dramatically elongate a toys lifespan!
Benefits of Clubhouses for Kids
We’ve mainly focused on the physiological benefits of clubhouses for kids but in reality, they encourage outdoor play that can be vital in kids development.
- Fresh Air – It’s no secret that playing outside in the fresh air is widely considered far healthier than being stuck indoors in front of the TV, Videos Games or iPads! Fresh air will clean their lungs, relax their bodies and ultimately help set them up for a better night’s sleep.
- Vitamin D – The sun is our most important source of Vitamin D. The sunlight on our skin causes a reaction that produces vitamin D in our bodies. This nutrient is vital in the developmental stages of childhood as in extreme cases of a lack of Vitamin D, bone pain, tenderness and even deformities can occur.
- Exercise – The importance of exercise really can’t be exaggerated.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases,
“About one-third of children and adolescents ages 6 to 19 are considered to be overweight or obese.”
Playing outdoors with playhouses and clubhouses gets kids active, enabling them to keep weight down, promote healthy digestion, stronger immune systems, better sleep patterns…the list goes on!
With the many issues the US has with obesity in adults as well as childhood, engaging in any physical play can only be beneficial.
